MacDonald is a British television director who started his career making arts documentaries before moving into television drama with his award-winning short ''Billy's Day Out''. He has directed a diverse range of projects such as the award-winning ''Bodies'', ''Mansfield Park'', ''The Last Enemy'' and ''Combat Hospital''. In 2010 he diversified into comedy, going on to direct two seasons of the BBC's critically acclaimed ''Bluestone 42'' and two seasons of Showtime's ''Episodes'' starring Matt LeBlanc.
